Creating Better Places to Live, Work and Play
New Urbanism is, quite simply, a set of principles for building walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. The extraordinary benefits behind this simple principle can completely change the economic basis for a neighborhood or an entire city.

This is a new concept based on old traditions and timeless practices, and is the most important planning movement this century, creating a better future for our cities and ourselves. New Urbanism is an international movement to reform the design of the built environment, as well as to raise our quality of life and standard of living by creating better places to live.

New Urbanism is the revival of the lost art of place-making by creating new living, shopping and working spaces in the form of complete cities, towns, villages, and neighborhoods - the way communities have been built for centuries around the world. It involves fixing and infilling cities, as well as creating new compact neighborhoods that function as villages within themselves.

Traditional architecture, along with street configurations and park areas all play a role in creating a New Urbanist neighborhood. Neighbors meet and greet each other in village parks or on strolls throughout the neighborhood, creating a close-knit community. New Urbanism takes us back to a simpler way of life.

Zaremba has been involved with New Urbanism in many of its neighborhood developments throughout the Cleveland area. Beacon Place, WoodHaven, and MillCreek, all in the city of Cleveland, are prime examples. As New Urbanism is the cornerstone of Zaremba’s communities, The Avenue District is a purely urban development complete with mulit-suite, multi-floored buildings, green space, and retail in Downtown Cleveland.
